Beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid that occurs naturally in our body. “Alpha”, “beta”, “gamma”, etc. prefixes describe the different spatial arrangement of amino acids, which is determined by the relationship between the amino group and the carboxyl group. Together with the essential amino acid L-histidine, beta-alanine is the building block of the dipeptide molecule called carnosine.
